Why am I suddenly getting barraged with unsolicited potentially dangerous junk email?

I am in ms word office 2010 email. I recently started receiving dozens of junk mails every day. So much so that my inbox often has 12+ of them every time I open it, which is several times/day. MS blocks the content, which is good, but they are still on my email list and I must junk each one individually.

Anyway, why am I suddenly receiving so much - LOTS - junk emails?

Office has nothing to do with the fact that you are getting spam.

There are several ways you can get onto spam lists:

    • you provided your email address by signing up for something you shouldn't have
    • a friends computer was hacked and their "contacts" list was collected by spammer
    • you provided your email address on a comment or other public part of the internet where a spammer was able to copy it

Once a spammer figures out that your email address is "good", say by you unsubscribing from a spam email, they sell it to other spammers, increasing the amount of spam you get.

I have Norton and FixCleaner. Doesn't that stop spam?

No, they do not stop spam.  They may prevent your computer from becoming infected with malicious software as a result of your accessing any links in the messages that you are received.

While your problem has nothing at all to do with the topic of this forum, probably the best thing for you to do is create a new email account and be very wary of how you make use of it.

I do not know what spam blocking facilities are built into Hotmail, but a Gmail account does quite a good job of filtering out spam.

A better forum for you to ask questions about Hotmail is that at:

I'm not sure what you mean by "mail client" but I searched your help menu and found it has something to do with email. All I know is that when I sign into Window Live, click on "hotmail" and there I am. Does that help?

My question is why all of the sudden am I receiving so much junk mail. Apparently it was blocked before, to where I didn't receive it at all. Now, I receive it with the text blocked which is good, but why do I receive these at all, and so many of them?

What mail client are you using? There is no mail client (Outlook) in the Office 2010 Starter edition; are you using Windows Live Mail, a webmail service, or what?
