when I type double quotation (shift + apostrophe key), it appears as double arrow. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Using Microsoft Word for Mac 2008. Trying to type using double quotations, like "this," but shows up as double arrow. It's only below a certain point in the document. In other words, near the top of the page, the quotations work fine. But an inch down the page doesn't allow me to type them. Instead it's double arrow, kind of like this (<<), but fancier.

Thanks.

It might also be a good idea to go to Word> Preferences> Edit to clear the check on Match font with keyboard.

Those would be guillemets, or «French quotes.» They would be placed there if you language is French.

To fix that, do Edit > Select All (or Command A), select Tools > Language and apply the proper language to your text. If Word behaves like that with all your new documents, then also click on the Default button to propagate that change to your Normal.dotm template.
