I just bought Office Professional and I cannot get the character map, character codes to function with a MS Word .Docx

As Hans says, in Word you need to have NumLock engaged for these codes to work (and you have to use the numeric keypad, not the keys on the number row). But Word also has a dedicated keyboard shortcut for the degree symbol: Ctrl+@, Spacebar. On U.S. keyboards, that's Ctrl+Shift+2, Spacebar--a little tricky to press, but it does work.
I tried that and It still did not work. but in this application "alt + 0520" ü it does work...
for some reason MS Word is not working, so I wonder if there is a macro or something that allows the Document to use keyboard shortcuts. I purchased MS Office Professional with MS Access....
Holding down he Alt key while typing 0176 on the numeric keypad produces ° where-ever you use it in Windows.
