Saving .pub file to .pdf, duplicate half-sheet documents get saved instead of two pages per sheet. How do I fix?

Trying to print maiil-merged postcards on 5.5 x 8.5 card stock, two per 8.5 x 11" sheet.  Fedex Office requires pdf format, but when I save my Publisher doc in pdf format it prints duplicates rather than two unique pages per sheet.  How do I set it up correctly?

It's Publisher 2010.  Your advice does not help me, since what you recommend is exactly what I have done.  The Pub 2010 file has a page size of 8.5 x 5.5, and each postcard has its own page.  But when I "save as" a pdf, the resulting file has two copies of each postcard.

    Any other advice?

When I go to Print and choose muliple pages per sheet and 1 copy of each page then the print preview shows the correct output...two postcards with two different names.

But then if I switch to File > Save & send > Create PDF > Options > Print options I don't get the option to choose mulipler pages per sheet and and if I choose Multiple copies per sheet then I get two postcards with the same name. Publisher 2010 does not seem to offer the same setting options that you can make when you print the document.

There may be a better way, but I see two options. When you get to the Print Options when creating the PDF then choose one page per sheet and paper size 'Publication Page' or create a custom page of 8.5 X 5.5. This results in one different name per card per page and your printer can then print two pages per sheet of letter size paper.

Option two is to download and install the free pdf making tool from www.primopdf.com and then when you go to Print, choose Multiple pages per sheet and 1 copy of each page and choose primopdf as your printer. Then the resulting pdf file is letter size sheets with two postcards per sheet with two different names as you wanted.

There might be a way to get the printer setting to stick with the Publisher PDF tool, but I can't find it right now. Apparently Volunteer J was able to get different results using Pub 2007, but I wasn't able to duplicate those either. In my experience the Office PDF tool is finicky and hard to work with in many cases and I tend to default to Primopdf for most of my work. Plus it has the ability to work with every app and I like the ability to append to existing pdf files.

Start with a single card when you do your merge to multiple copies per sheet set in the print setup.

By the way, always include which version of Publisher you are using and as many specifics as possible when posting a question. Detailed questions get better and more detailed responses.

It took me FOREVER to figure this out as well.  The trick, I have discovered, is DO NOT USE the 'Save As Adobe PDF' option.

Instead, choose "Save As', name your document and change the 'Save As Type' to PDF.  Then click 'OPTIONS'.   A pop-up window should appear.  Look to the bottom and click 'Print Options'.   Choose one page per sheet and click 'OK'.  Then 'OK' again.   Finally, click "Save'.

I've tested this process a half dozen times and so far it is the ONLY way to make it save in landscape as opposed to the funky postcard style.   Why they had to make such a simple thing such a major issue I have NO idea, but give this a try and see if it works for you.  I'm assuming by now you've already found a solution but figured other people may be looking for an answer as well so...

    Cheers!

    ====================================

I'm running Pub 2007 so the following steps may not be

exactly the same as 2010 but still may be worth a try.

When I go to...File / Publish As PDF...it launches the

    Publish As PDF screen...

Near the bottom of the screen...left click the Change button.

this launches the Publish Options screen...

At the bottom of that screen...left click the...Print Options button...

On the Print Options screen I have three choices...

One Page Per Sheet / Multiple Copies Per Sheet / Multiple Pages Per Sheet...

If I choose 'Multiple Pages Per Sheet'...OK / OK / Publish...

the resulting .PDF file has two different cards per page.

Also...on the Print Options screen...if I choose...Landscape instead of Portrait...

the resulting .PDF file will have one card per page.
