How do I access Word templates that are stored on my computer in Word 2013?

1/16/13 - I now have the full version of Word 2013 installed on my computer and still cannot  find a way to open a copy of a template through Word. I do not have any of the options suggested in the responses below. I just need to open a copy of a template without opening the copy through Windows Explorer. When I click File / New, there is a "Search for online templates" field, followed by suggested searches below it: Letters, Resume, Fax Labels, Cards, Calendar, Blank. Below that are the templates that come with Word by default. Nowhere under File/New is there a link to "personal" or "featured" - and there is no way to search for the template on my computer. Can anyone help me with this one? Our templates are not stored on the default local drive - templates are stored in many locations on a network drive, so I need to be able to access them from File / New.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Tammy

In the Word 2013 preview, how do I access templates that are stored somewhere other than the "default" template location? In 2010, I choose File / New / then "New from existing"  - where is this in 2013? There is no "Shared" or "Featured" choice, as I've read in other posts. Adding the "New Document or Template" button to the Quick Access Toolbar does not help, as the templates are not stored in the default location. I've created a test template in 2013 just to see if something else displays when I go to File/New, but nothing new appears.

Thanks!

Tammy

Set the path of the folder containing the templates as either the User or WorkGroup Templates location via File>Options>Advanced and scroll down to the General section of the Word Options dialog and click on the File Locations button then select the one that you want to use and click on the Modify button.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond, Nayana. Unfortunately, I do not have a "Personal" choice, either...

    Thanks,

    Tammy

How about a My Templates item.  Do you have that?

Better however to add the New Document or Template item from the All Commands group to the Quick Access Toolbar, which will take you straight to the classic New dialog from Word 2003 and before, without all of the eye candy.

File>Options>Advanced and scroll down to the General section of the dialog and click on the File locations button.  In the File Locations dialog that opens, you can set the location for

    Documents

    Images

    User templates

    Workgroup templates

    Autorecover files

    Tools

    Startup

As I am getting used to this for myself only, I found that by amending the "Workgroup templates" option to point to my own templates, I got the choice when I went into New; I then could click on "shared" and I could see my templates again.  PHEEEEEEWWWWWW!

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond, Doug.

The only items I have under File/New are: The search field that searches for online templates; "Suggested searches" - next to that : Letters, Resume, Fax, Labels, Cards, Calendar; below that, are the default templates that come with Word.

Unfortunately, the "New Document or Template" button will not work for me because these are templates that are not stored in the default template location. They are stored on a "G" drive.

At this point, the only way to get a fresh copy of a template, is to go to through Windows Explorer, right-click on the file and choose New. That is not going to work for my end users.

    Thanks, again!

    Tammy

Follow the steps mentioned below and check if that helps:

    1. Open Word 2013 > Click on ‘File’ > Click on ‘New’.
    2. In ‘New’ window screen, there are two options ‘Featured’ and ‘Personal’.
    3. Click on ‘Personal’, which will display the saved templates and open it.
