Ebedded Files in a PPT that is for distribution.

I am creating a PPT presentation into which I need to embed a couple of Word and PDF docs. I know I can do this with a file that is on my pc via an Insert/Object or create a hyperlink to a local file or cloud drive, but would like the presentation to be distributed to individuals to view it standalone on their computers and not need to be connected to the internet or a web server. Thus the presentsion created can be distributed and viewed by people even if they are on a train or in a car or bus and have the embedded files launch for reading. Hope I'm clear on this. Thank you.

If you insert object and choose Link, or use a hyperlink, then the object is NOT embedded.  It's linked, and the file that contains it must be distributed along with the PPT that contains the link.

If you insert an object and do NOT choose Link, the object will be embedded ... meaning that the entire contents of the file will be included in the PPT/PPTX file, and recipients of the PPT/PPTX will be able to launch the embedded file by double-clicking it (assuming that they have the necessary application installed on their PC).

I am not particularly computer literate. I believe what you are saying is, PDF links can't be embedded in PPTs unless you send the PDFs with the PPT presentation? Which undermines the purpose of PDF links?

    Thank you John,

That could work but how do I make the shape launch the PDF?

    Is this the only way?

Is the a software that could do what I need easier?

    Thanks again

You can trigger the PDF Open Action from ANY shape not just a click on the icon BUT you cannot use a text link. You would need to fake it by formatting the text blue and underlined and then covering it with a transparent shape that is the real trigger. The color won't change though. I guess it would be possible if this matters to have a font color change also triggered but the text would need to be in a separate textbox/ shape.

    There's asimple example here

    Steve,

Thank you for your quick response. Your answer puts the icon on the slide, which is great but my description may have been incomplete.

My desire is to have a bullet point...say underlinded and when clicked, launched the doc in another window. Like a link in a website that opens a "blank" or "new" window.

    I.E.,

    • COMPANY DIRECTORY (click to open PDF)

    Hope that clarifies things

    Thanks again
