I need a password to open it, and the only option for change I currently have is "Share Workbook".  Everything else it grayed out.

None of these replies were helpful.  I will spend the time recreating the spreadsheet.  For the record, I am very disappointed in this product and this forum.

Verify if the Workbook is shared. If the workbook is shared then uncheck the option.

    • Open your Excel workbook.
    • Click on Review tab > Share Workbook uncheck the box under editing.
    • Click Ok.

Verify if the Worksheets are grouped, if so you may ungroup the Worksheets and check it helps.

When multiple worksheets are selected, [Group] appears in the title bar at the top of the worksheet. To cancel a selection of multiple worksheets in a workbook, click any unselected worksheet. If no unselected sheet is visible, right-click the tab of a selected sheet, and then click Ungroup Sheets on the shortcut menu.

I have the password.  I created the file and protected the workbook structure.  When I open the file, it asks me for the password... I provide it, and the file opens.  When I select the review tab, the option to protect or unprotect is not available to me because everything is grayed out.  I need to provide others access now... hence my desire to unprotect it.  This file is would take me hours to recreate.  Please advise.

Was the file created by you or was it sent to you with workbook protected?

If you do not have the password or forgotten it, unfortunately you will not be able to unprotect the sheet or workbook.
