how to remove line space before and after bullet point list

When I make a bullet point list, Word inserts an extra line space before the list and after the list. I do not want the extra spaces. It was ok in 2003, but not 2007 puts in the extra spaces.

In the Apply Styles pane (Ctrl+Shift+S), type in List Paragraph. Click the Modify button, and then click Format, Paragraph. Make sure that Spacing Before and After are both set to zero. Click OK. If you want to transfer the setting to the attached template, select "New documents based on this template" before clicking OK in the Modify Style dialog.

By default, Word applies the List Paragraph style when you apply bullet or numbering formatting to text, so you could modify List Paragraph so that it has no spacing before or after.

Assuming that we are still talking about vertical spacing, you can make use of the instructions I posted earlier. Just replace List Paragraph with Normal: In the Apply Styles pane (Ctrl+Shift+S), type in Normal. Click the Modify button, and then click Format, Paragraph. Make sure that Spacing Before and After are both set to zero. Click OK. If you want to transfer the setting to the attached template, select "New documents based on this template" before clicking OK in the Modify Style dialog.

I tried this and it did not work. I want the Normal style, which is the default when I open Word, to do what I want, and that is, I want no extra line spacing before or after a bulleted (or numbered) list on all my documents. If I want an extra space, I will put it in manually.

If you go to Word 2003 and have some text followed by list of items followed by more text,, and then make the list of items a bulleted or numbered list, you will see there is no extra line space before or after the list. That's what I want for my 2007 version.

    How can I do this?

    Thanks.

I don't know how to modify List Paragraph. Everything else under the Normal style seems to be ok to me except for the extra space before and after bullet lists. Word 2003 Normal style did not put in these extra spaces.  Because I have limited space in most documents, I need to not have those extra spaces.  Any help (like step 1, step 2, etc.) would be appreciated. Thanks, Stefan.
