Powerpoint multi-level list in tables

In PowerPoint 2003 I was able to have multi-level lists in PowerPoint tables in the same way as in the main body of a slide: The first level had one type of bullet, the second a dash and so forth. I can move between levels with alt-shift-arrow.

When I now work in PowerPoint 2010 I seem to have lost this ability. The tables I copied from my old presentations no longer work and I can't find a way to reproduce the functionality. I can still indent to various levels, but the bullets don't change with the levels.

I'm fairly convinced that this is not a functionality that Microsoft has decided to eliminate and thus it must be me.

Can someone help me to understand what I should be doing?

    Unfortunately there is no multi-level list option available in PowerPoint 2010.

    If you think this feature is important and want Microsoft to include this in the future versions of the software, provide your feedback in the link below:

    As a workaround you may insert Word as an object and create multi-level numbered list and  see if it helps.

    1) Open PowerPoint, click on Insert, Object, select Microsoft Word Document and click on OK.

    2) Create the m ulti-level list and click outside Word window, re-size it move it to the desired place.

    I suspect this is one of the things that got either left behind or broken when MS made a radical change in the way tables are handled in PPT 2007.  There's still some things in 2010 that aren't up to par with 2003, unfortunately.

    Daniel and Steve, thank you for quick responses.

    Steve, thank you in particular for taking the time to record the screencast.

    I have been able to define the different levels and attach different bullets to each part of the text in a way similar to what Steve showed. The issue is that I have not been able to (seemingly) attach it to the different levels. Thus, when I try to move between levels, the bullets do not change to correspond to the right level.

    What bugs me greatly about this is that in PowerPoint 2003, this was EASY and available. It's hard for me to believe that Microsoft would have removed this functionality. Daniel, could you confirm that Microsoft has chosen to delete this functionality? Or is there another way to get to it?

    To further explain, in PPT 2003 you could navigate levels the same way as you can navigate the main text body (the main text body functionality has of course remained from 2003 to 2007 and 2010.)

    Daniel and I may be thinking of different things, but I think that you CAN have multiple bullet levels within one cell in a PPT 2010 table.  

    Here's a quickie screen recording that demonstrates how to do this:

    At the end, you'll see me fiddling around trying to set the tab indents/bullet offsets w/o any success.  It seems that the screen recording software interfered with my ability to do this, for some odd reason.  As soon as I ended the recording, I was able to make the adjustments.

    Solution:  Don't record screencasts when you do this for real. ;-)
