How do I insert the "squared" symbol (little raised 2) so that I can write out a math equation? Thanks.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am using an I Mac 27" (12.2), OX Ver. 10.6.8 Snow Leopard with with MS Office for Mac 2011, Version 14.2.3.

I want to add math equations and be able to insert the "squared" sign, a little raised 2 for squared or a three for cubed.

Can anyone tell me how I can do this? Squared and cubed signs/symbols are not on the insert pallet.

Thanks.  Russ

Two options, then you're on your own :-)

    E.g., 5 squared:

    1. Type 52 then
    2. Shift+Left Arrow to select the 2
    3. Click the Superscript button on the Ribbon or use Command+Shift+=
    4. Press Right Arrow then resume typing****

    or

    1. Type the 5
    2. Do as in the 3rd step above to turn Superscript On
    3. Type the 2
    4. Turn Superscript Off using either of the methods use to turn it On

If it's a simple expression needing only what you describe, you can select the exponent & apply superscript formatting. For anything more complex -- or for a more professional result -- use the Equation button @ the right end of the Document Elements tab of the Ribbon.

Hello.  To me this is a very easy way for you to get your  ² sign.  LOL.  OK, copy & paste this address:    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Open-Character-Map   into your current address browser window-----hit ENTER, a little window, entitled "Character Map" pops up.  The easiest is to use your eyeballs to find the character you want to use-----CLICK on that character.  In that little "Character Map" window look a couple inches below for a button called SELECT-----CLICK on that.  Your chosen character will now appear in the small window below called "Characters to copy".  Now, just to the right is a button called COPY-------CLICK on that.  Now, go to your document where you want to put that character------LEFT CLICK.  A cursor will be there, now RIGHT CLICK-----a little menu pops up------LEFT CLICK on PASTE.  Voilá!
