What is the best way to convert pdf file into power point slides?

There are several situations where we need to convert a pdf file into power point presentation. For example most of the

research papers onIEEE Xplore are in pdf. Then there are various documents available from corporate sites, phd/MS thesis/reports

from university websites etc which are in pdf. Is there an elegant way to convert the pdf file to power point slides? Also, getting the images

from the pdf to ppt seems to be a problem.

Warm regards

If you just need an image of the text Acrobat Reader has a snapshot tool. (Tools > Select and Zoom)

You can use the built in Win 7 "snipping" tool

This article lists a few alternate tools:

    Personally, I use FastStone Capture:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2007-powerpoint/what-is-the-best-way-to-convert-pdf-file-into/dea85663-5453-47a6-8b7d-3fc1b5d6415c

Can you suggest a good Graphics Snapshot tool?  I have been practicing screen capture and then

editing the image using paint. If there is tool which captures the part of the screen, it will be convenient.

Also, advice on how to get equations from pdf to power point.

I've tested several programs that claim to be able to convert PDF to PowerPoint.  Some do a better job than others, but none that I'm aware of will convert the PDF, even one created in PPT originally, back to anything like a properly constructed PPT file.

You'll get a page of graphics (some raster, some vector depending on the source and the program used for the conversion) that LOOK like the PDF, but bulleted text, for example, won't necessarily turn into a normal PPT body text block.

Getting images to PPT or even entire PDF pages *as* images into PPT is quite simple and very effective, so long as the images in the PDF itself are of reasonable resolution.

The trick is to zoom in on the PDF in Reader before using the graphics snapshot tool to choose the area to be copied.

First, many of the things you are describing are not really suitable for PPTs: research papers? Thesis?

I don't know of a simple "1-step" method. I would use a several step process.

Many PDFs will allow you to select and copy text from them. You can Paste that into the PPT.  You can use screen capture tools to get pictures of the Pictures and graphics from the PDFs to paste into PPT.

For PDFs that are secured to prevent you from copying text you will have to try using an OCR tool.  MODI, MS Office Document Imaging (program) in the Tools folder will extract text from images.

2013 03 01, A quick review of the app shows it is worth using. It converts to text only, no character formatting preserved. Line placement is maintained, using a para mark at the end of each line (which I find acceptable). Graphics, and tables (?) are excluded. Short lines indicate where graphics have been excluded.

Handles columns intelligently, working left to right, placing extracted text top down in correct order.
