Powerpoint image quality loss when scaled down

When I insert a large photo in Powerpoint 2013 and scale it down, its quality is lost. I am really frustrated about this thing. I know its presumably there to keep the presentation size as low as possible but I don't care.

Is there any workaround for this stupidity?

Do you mean that the quality is lower after you've saved and reopened the presentation?

Try turning off compression and before inserting the picture, either delete any content placeholder on the slide or pop a bit of text into the placeholder, before inserting the pic.

Great!  Thanks for letting us all know it works there too.

Thanks a lot. It worked brilliantly for PowerPoint 2013 ( Office 15.0).

    There is!

PowerPoint 2007 and 2010 make pictures blurry, loses GIF animation

    http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00862_PowerPoint_2007_and_2010_make_pictures_blurry-_loses_GIF_animation.htm

It describes how to do the job by editing the registry.  There's a note about using either 12.0 or 14.0 for the registry location, depending on whether you have PPT 2007 or 2010 respectively.  With luck, the same trick will work for PPT 2013 by using 15.0

Thanks. Disabling compression did the trick.

But one more thing, this compression disabling works only for one document at a time. Can I disable compression by default for all presentations?
