Brand new computer working fine yesterday, but today I cannot open Outlook. or any other office application.  I am running Office Home and Business.  I go to follow the repair process and when I do, it states that it can't repair Office because Word is open.  I have not opened Word and it is not running on this computer.  I can't get beyond this point.   I need help.

    Hello Paul,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for posting the question.

I will help you to resolve Office 2013 related issues. However I need additional information:

What happens when you try accessing any Office applications? Do you receive any error?

If yes, post the complete error.

Before trying to repair, ensure that none of the Office applications are running in the background and to do that follow the below mentioned steps:

*Open Task Manager by right-clicking the task bar, and then clicking Start Task Manager.

Tip: You can also open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc.

    *Click on ‘Processes’ tab

*Look for any process related to Office 365. If found, right click on the same and then click on End Process and End Process and then start the repair process and see if it helps.

Hope the above information helps. Reply with the result and I’ll be glad to further assist you.

    Thank You.

    Hello Mike,

I'd be able to assist you if you more information about this issue

    1. What happens when you try opening the Office applications? Do you receive any error?

    2)  What happens when you try repairing the Office suite? Does it complete or is it interrupted with any error?

You may try opening Office applications in safe mode as mentioned in the following article and check if you're able to work with it:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/why-cant-i-start-my-office-2013-application-HA104011864.aspx

Reply with necessary information and the result for further assistance.

    Thank You.

I have tried every fix on my 3 day old dell and the office "CARD" I installed on it.  It still won't repair. It worked great for 1 day then won't even open. Brand new!!  The reason I bought the pc was to have a compatible word format at home from work.  This is useless.  I'm taking it back to best buy tomorrow.

See "General troubleshooting for installing Office 2013 and Office 365" at:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2822317/en-us

See ""Something went wrong" error when you install Office 2013 or Office 365" at:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2827031/en-us

    and, if necessary http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2822317

If that does not help, then you might remove all traces of the Office  installation by running the fixit from the following article:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

and then reinstall Office by logging into www.office.com/myaccount with your registered email address and click Install Office.
