Spreadsheet for Arabic Layout

I am now preparing a workbook with many spreadsheets.

There are a few spreadsheets in which I have to work in Arabic.

Now, Arabic reads from Right to Left.

(English reads from Left to Right)

So what I do is select an Arabic Font and then format cells to 'Right Align'

This works well.

However, I am wondering whether I could have a different layout altogether for the Arabic spreadsheets, where;

  1. The Row Numbers will be displayed on the Right (now it is displayed in the Column at the Left Extreme)
  2. Whether Columns A, B, C etc could begin from the Right (now it begins from the Left side)
  3. The Default Font for that sheet to be an Arabic Font and all Cells to be Right Aligned
  4. We now scroll (horizontally) from Left to Right, so in this Arabic Spreadsheet, horizontal scrolling would have to be from Right to Left

I am uncomfortable with Macro's, I do not know why, but it is a little confusing to work with.

However if that is the only solution, then I would have to try it out.

Thanks

For the Excel instructions go to:

Right-to-left language features -> Set right-to-left text writing -> Microsoft Office Excel 2007

I've got Excel 2010 myself and got the right-to-left layout working just fine (there it's in Options > Advanced), but I checked the above article to see where the options are exactly in 2007.

It now seems to me those instructions weren't properly updated, because the International tab was a feature of Excel 97-2003.

It turns out, the option to change the sheet direction is also on the Advanced tab in Excel 2007, but only if you have installed at least one **RightToLeft** language.

    Thanks.

    A few problems though.

    1. You instructed;

    Go to: Office Button -> Excel Options ->  International

    Went to Office Button, then Excel Options, but there is no 'International' to select

    1. You also gave me a link;

    http://office.microsoft.com/HA010351021

    This article seems to be instructing 'Right to Left Language Features'

    but I cannot see the instructions that I am looking for.

    I think my query is pretty straight and the instructions should be very straight as well, but my observations of Microsoft Help is that it is anything but helpful!

    The answer I think is in your instructions.

    How do I locate the International?

    Thanks once again

    It is possible to change the layout from left-to-right to right-to-left and change the font and text direction.

    • Some instructions removed. See below.
    • Insert a new worksheet, or open a new workbook.
    • In the Windows taskbar (or on the Language bar, if it is visible), click the Language icon, and then click the name of the right-to-left language that you want to use.
    • If you need to change the direction of the text, click the Right-to-left button on the Data tab in the Font Alignment group.

    You can read more about the right-to-left language features in Office here:
