since installing Kaspersky I've had problems with opening some Word docs including Ppt docs. Initially thought my Office software was corrupt so i reloaded software and even upgraded to Office 2013,  no luck. When trying to open some Word doc, they just hang in Protected view without ever opening. Help please!

    Hi,

As I understand you are facing issue while opening Word documents and PowerPoint files. Let me assist you with the issue,

There might be several possible causes for the Word and PowerPoint applications to hang, let’s try some troubleshooting steps in order to check what is causing the issue.

Start the computer in Windows clean boot mode and then check if the issue persists with Word and PowerPoint files.

Refer the link below to know on how to start the computer in clean boot:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Clean boot is performed to disable all startup programs and 3rd party services on the machine and check if they are conflicting with the Office program. If so, you may disable the unwanted software those conflict with the suite or get them updated.

    Let us know the result.

    Thank you.

Well, I have to update this thread for any reader.

Apparently Kaspersky reports that this is an issue with Office 2013 and not them. Microsoft seems to be working on a fix to be released in the near future.

Its unfortunately a long standing issue with Kaspersky and any product that use their engine starting from version 2012 and 2013 and even in latest 2014 beta. If you fully remove kaspersky from the system you will see that protected view in Office 2013 or Outlook 2013 previewer will work again. Looks like a blocking deep in the system as simple shutdown of Kaspersky will not solve the problem.

Try to report the issue to Kaspersky, more reports more likely they will look into the issue earlier than later.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers,

Thanks for your effort but document still doesn't open-still hangs in protected view. Am using Office 2013 and the docs trying to open are from Office 2003-2007. Have disabled all protected view in the trust centre settings nothing helped. Went further to disable the security software hoping this would make a difference but it didn't. I've downloaded the file converter for office, no difference. The only time it opens is if I first save it as a file document then re-save it as a Microsoft enabled document (docm). Some formatting in the document however gets affected.I hope this detail will help with better troubleshooting options. Thanks again!
