How do I change the date format on MS Project?

How do I change the date format on MS Project?  I used to be able to choose to show it as a mm/day/yr, but the default is Tuesday 10/18/11....  which takes up too much space in the date columns.  Also, can I change the font to just one column of text, or does it have to be for the entire view?  Again, my goal is to get the date columns to be less wide.  they take up way too much space on any view that I create.

thanks.

    In project 2010:

File > Options > General - project view allows you to set Date formats.

The font in one column - try selecting the column.

You may also change date formats on a table by table basis.  View tab, table drop-down.  More tables.  Select the table and edit.

    I hope this helps.

    RobGGG,

Can you do that? Sure, and here's how.

    1. Display the Project Summary Task in the Gantt Chart view and add Text1 as a column in the view. You won't need to keep the Project Summary Task or the added field in the view once it's all set up but this will make it a little easier to visualize
    2. Customize the Text1 field with the formula:

    Text1=Format([Current Date],"d mmm yyyy")

    1. Set the option to use the formula for task and group summary rows
    2. Go to File/Print/Page Setup/Footer tab
    3. In the Project fields selection box at the bottom of the Page Setup window, select Text1
    4. Hit "Add" and then "Okay." That will add your desired date format along with the page number to the footer.

    Hope this helps.

    John

The options that Jan notes above change the date format globally -- all Projects.  However, you can change the date display in files by altering the table.

    In Project 2010:

    1. View ribbon and select Tables > More Tables to open the More tables window.
    2. Select the Entry table and click the Edit button to open the Table Definition window.
    3. In the Date Format list, select the format needed.

Repeat for other tables you use for presentation.  Bear in mind that changing the date format does not change the level of calculation Project uses - showing just date without time  does not spread the tasks out to fill an entire day.  They still end at a specific time.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi,

In File menu, Options,General, Dtae Format one of the options is 28 Jan '09

That's as close as you can get.
