I have installed office 2013 on a Win7SP1 Pro machine. The machine has a network card on the motherboard, but it is not attached to a network. The office activation does not give me the choice of activating by phone as suggested here:

Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013, Microsoft Office Home and Business 2013, or Microsoft Office Professional 2013

To start the Product Activation Wizard, follow these steps:

  1. Open any Office program. For example, open Microsoft Word 2013.
  2. Click the File tab.
  3. Click Account, then click Activate Product.
  4. In the Microsoft Office Activation Wizard, choose I want to activate the software by telephone, then click Next.
  5. Click the drop-down menu, and then choose the country or region that you're from.
  6. The Product Activation Center telephone number will appear under the drop-down menu in Step 1.

Reading all the words is a good thing! On the download page, it says that you have to use a newly generated product key. When you use this new product key you can register by phone. I was trying to use my original key.

    Problem solved. Yeah!

I understand your frustration. The activation change from Office 2010 to Office 2013 is a nightmare!

I had previously used Office 365, but it's online requirement proved unfeasible. After purchasing Office 2013, I could not install it with my Microsoft account since I could not get to the download area. Every option returned me to my account page showing the expired Office 365 product and the only option being to reactivate Office 365. I created a new Microsoft account, entered the 25-digit code again, but get the error that Office is not associated with that account. I ordered the CD and installed from there, only to find Internet Explorer 11 would not load the activation page because of an invalid certificate. I added https://go.microsoft.com as a trusted site, but IE would still not load the page. I took the security setting to low so the page would load, but again I cannot activate it with my first account - only shows office 365 as expired, nor my new account which shows no Office product attached to the account. As the head of IT I have 25 copies to install and have been unable to get even the first copy installed and activated. This is just ridiculous to tie every installation to a different Microsoft account with no options to delete unused products from the accounts or add new ones to the accounts. It would have been so easy to allow Office 2013 to be installed from a CD on one computer after another, and enter the unique activation codes for each computer as we did with Office 2010. So frustrating when the process could be so simple.

My problem wasn't finding the right phone number, it was getting to the register by phone prompt. I've found the solution. See my other post

Here are some alternate methods of getting the right phone activation phone number

Phone Activation Process in Photos Win XP-7 Office 2003-2010

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950929

NOTE: you can find links to the specific activation instruction for Office or Windows in hyperlinks at the bottom of the article

If the activation process fails, you can change the activation process to telephone and call the number it provides you. Do not enter anything until the phone system offers you the option to talk to a live service rep. Explain the problem to them. You are transferring the installation from a “dead” computer, or you are getting an invalid product key and would like to know the exact reason

Telephone activation might take longer than activation through the Internet. You should be at your computer when you call, and you should have your software Product Key available.

    1.     In the Activation Wizard, select the country/region where you reside and where you plan to use the product .

    1. The wizard provides one or more telephone numbers appropriate for your selection. Use the number provided on your Activation Wizard screen to call the Microsoft Activation Center.

    2.     Call the Activation Center .

    2.      The customer service representative asks you for your installation ID (displayed on your screen) and other relevant information. After your installation ID is verified, you receive a confirmation ID.

    1.     In the Activation Wizard, type the confirmation ID in the spaces provided at the bottom of the screen, and then press ENTER .

    1. Notes

Telephone activation is not available for Trial and Subscription versions.

Use Activation Wizard to get the “Installation ID” required by Phone and Chat Help lines

    do the activation method below:

    ·         Open Word application.

    ·         Click on the round Office button in the upper left corner of the screen.

    ·         Select "Word Options" at the bottom of the menu.

    ·         Select "Resources" from the left menu.

    ·         Click "Activate" on the right side

    ·         Select "I want to activate the software over the Internet" and click "Next". This will usually complete successfully and activate the software.

    ·         If you were unable to automatically activate over the Internet, you may select "I want to activate the software by telephone" and click "Next."

The Microsoft Activation Wizard will show you three steps:

    Step 1: Select your location

Step 2: Installation ID (This will be required by the chat/phone support team from you for activation. Please provide it to them immediately)

Step 3: Confirmation ID (This will be provided by the support to you that you need to enter from boxes A to H to proceed with the activation. You may click on Next after entering the ID to complete the activation.

What can you do if Office product activation is refused?

If phone activation fails you can ask the same person for help though most likely it’s a mix-up with the activation code.

If you don’t get an activation code, Microsoft staff should explain why authorization can’t be given. If they can’t, then ask to speak to a supervisor. Try to find out exactly what the problem is and ask about further appeals process.

    Hi Alan,

As I understand you are unable to activate Office 2013 program.

I would need more information on the issue:

    1. What suite of Office 2013 program did you purchase (Office 2013 Home and Student or Home and Business etc.)?
    2. What options do you find to activate Office?
    3. Do you have any trial\multiple version of Office installed on the computer?

If possible upload a screenshot on how the activation prompt appears:

Provide us more information on the issue to help us assist you further.

    Thank you.
