turn off snap to function in Word

When inserting a drawn line in Word the line snaps to a grid line location whereas my drawing requires that I place the line between grid lines. Is there a way to turn off the "snap-to" function?

There are three solutions Probably more).

    1. Hold down the Alt key whilst you adjust the positioning. Holding the Alt key overrides the snap to function.
    2. Go to Drawing Options and disable the Snap to function.
    3. Right-click on the drawing object and select Properties and set the position manually.

Note that I cannot give you exact instructions as I don’t know your version of Word or OS as I am using NNTP access to the forums.

Great answer! You won't believe how many I know who struggle with this same issue!

I'm currently on Mac OS Sierra. The best option for me was #2 except, instead of ALT key, I needed to hold down the CMD/apple key.

And...My reco' to Microsoft product development team is: LEAVE THE SNAPPING OFF BY DEFAULT or, at least provide a more visible option for turning snapping on/off! Nobody wants objects aligning arbitrarily like that in their documents :(

    For Office 2010

    In Page Layout Tab

Go to "Arrange" group on far right side

    Open "Align" drop-down list

Open "Grid Settings" (bottom of list)

Un-check "snap objects to other objects" AND / OR un-check "snap objects to grid when grid lines are not displayed"

(note you can select "set as default" so you will only have to do it once)
