Why can't I send an object to Back or Behind text in Word 2010

I have a document that someone else created. There are many text frames and shapes included. These are grouped. So, when I ungrouped them the text frames goes behind the colored retangles. I've tried all the tips I've found here, (Select object, Send to Back, or Send Behind text) Nothing works. I have to move the shape to get to the text frame beneath. I can then choose the text frame and Bring it to Front of Text. But the Bring Forward and Bring to Front have never worked. Also, is there a key stroke(s) to Ungroup? Working in MSWord 2010

Thanks Suzanne. Yes there is a text box under the colored shape. I am not able to choose the text box without moving the shape. I don't understand what the use of the Bring to Forward or Send to Back is.  Like i said before, I did not create this monster, so I am trying to edit someone else's method. the entire page is grouped a couple of times, and when I ungroup it all the text boxes go behind the shapes and it takes a lot of tedious time to bring them to the front.

You can create a basic macro to ungroup and assign it to a key.

    1. group some objects
    2. select "record macro" on Developer tab (you may have to put the tab on the ribbon)
    3. assign a name and a key to store the macro on (e.g., Control M, or another key combination you are not using)
    4. save it to your normal template or only the document as you wish
    5. Click OK
    6. Select the grouped objects

    7) Click on Run Macro

    1. Right click grouped object and ungroup
    2. Click Pause Recording

Test the macro using the key combination you chose.

How did you insert text on the group? Provide the steps to reproduce the issue. If possible provide us a sample file

Thanks. That's what I finally figured I'd have to do. But thank you for adding the steps, now i don't have to go look that up. I was hoping that maybe the standard Ctrl+g or Crtl+ahift+g to group and ungroup would work. I'll create a marco.

The text is apparently in a text box rather than in the text layer, and it seems that the colored shapes are In Front of Text (or possibly even In Line With Text), while the text box is vanishing behind the text. If you use the Select Objects tool (Home | Editing | Select | Select Objects), are you able to select the text box without moving the shapes?

There are no built-in keyboard shortcuts for grouping or ungrouping, but both DrawGroup and DrawUngroup are available in the Customize Keyboard dialog (under All Commands), so you can assign your own keyboard shortcuts.
