Word 2013 - How do I turn on Cleartype?

I have just installed Office 2013, and the fonts are very difficult to read using standard system fonts such as Times new Roman.  I have turned on  "Clear Type" on dispaly properties (it was always on), however the screen fonts are extreemly difficult to read.

I have a Dell laptop with a 1920 x 1080 screen that had great looking fonts on Word 2010.

I have looked at several responses to similar questions, however the answers have been less than helpful (e.g. get a high resolution monitor).  While a high resolution monitor may help for some, it is not practical to drag around a monitor with a laptop....

Any ideas how to fix this?

Well, I finally found a solution to the poor font display ...

After I read up on this issue, it has become clear to me that the issue lies entirely within Office 2013, and IE10.

I have gone back to IE9, and Office 2010, and the fonts are now clear and easy to read.  My conclusion from the frustrating excercise, is that the "optimization" that Microsoft has implemented for Office 2013, and IE10, is not suitable for a regular laptop or LCD screen.

Just something to keep in mind if considering an upgrade....

Thank you for your response, however these do not seem to solve the problem.  I have already turned on the ClearType, and it seems to be fine for everything except MS Office.  Word is the worst.

I did some more reading on this and it seems that Microsoft is tailoring their system display to tablets.  My use however is in the business world, and I need the Office programs to be tailored more to, a, well, OFFICE!

    Please forgive my rant...

I am hoping that this apparent shortcoming has a solution.  As it is now, I simply cannot use the software.  My eyes hurt after about an hour.  With the typical work day often exceeding 8 hours, this is just not going to work.
