How do I keep my JPG image from being saved as a GIF image when I save as a Web PAge, Filtered document?

Using Word 2010 - I have a book with images that I created in Word 2007.  When I saved the docx file as Web Page, Filtered all of the images were saved as PNG files in Word 2007.  I replaced one image in Word 2010 with a JPG image, then saved it as a Web Page, Filtered and the new image was saved as a GIF image instead of PNG or JPG.  I want it to be in PNG or JPG format, not GIF.  How do I accomplish this?  Why is Word 2010 changing my JPG to GIF?

I stumbled on this recently too in Word 2013; my solution was to change the setting in the Save as Dialog > Tools button > Web Options menu item > Browsers tab > enable Allow PNG as a graphics format; this also changed the Browser IE 4 to IE 6; I think if you set it even higher more advanced web page support is enabled. As far as I know I had never set this option manually, so some update might have changed the setting since I used this feature before without problems.

Funny thing, I've got the same problem... my lovely JPEGs (all 80 of them) were saved out as spotty gifs. I have not found a solution. Windows 7, Word 2007.

That didn't help either.  I'm amazed that I can't determine why this is happening.  When I 1st created the book in Word 2007 and then did the "SAVE AS Web Page, Filtered", all of my ".jpg" images were taken from the "docx" file, converted to ".png" files, and placed in a new folder for the htm file.  I didn't like that, but accepted it assuming that WORD knew better than I.  In trialing Word 2010, I again went thru that process and the images were generated as ".png" files, and placed in a new folder for the htm file.  I later decided that one of my images wasn't clear enough, re-created it, inserted it in place of the old one and did the SAVE AS Web Page, Filtered after deleting all of the images in the Files Folder.  This time, the new image was saved as a ".Gif" file, and no other images were placed in the Files folder.  I had to go find the other images from the 1st SAVE AS, Web Page Filtered process and copy them to the Files Folder.  Word HELP says that all images are saved to the Files Folder for the HTM File, but now I'm not only getting a ".GIF" instead of the ".PNG", but I'm only getting the one image.

Anyway, my FIX was to call up the initial bad ".PNG" file, edit it, then change the html to reference it instead of the ".GIF" file.

I am unable to replicate that behaviour with with Office 2010 running under Windows 7 or Windows 8.

A work around for you might be to first save the document in Word 97-2003 format and then Save as Web Page Filtered.
