How do I change a chart legend's icon and font sizes in Excel 2010?

I cannot change the legend's icon shape or size in my Excel 2010 charts. I have tried everything and searched the internet without success. I recall being able to make these simple changes in Excel 2000. I am looking for icon changes, not titles or data series names.

You must click once on the legend box to select it. Don't double-click it. Then you right click your mouse while the legend is still selected. It will open a little dialogue box where it will allow you to change the font type & font size etc.

Thank you for replying. No, not the data markers. The markers in the legend that are little squares of color matching their data series. The squares are too small in a small chart, making the colors hard to identify. I want to make those squares larger. Pretty simple request. It is hard to believe there is no solution, but apparently Microsoft left it out!

Hey there! Took me forever to figure this out but I thought I'd share!

Instead of trying to reformat the points using the legend to edit, you need to click a single point of the scatter plot itself. If it is part of a series you should see the rest of the series selected as well. From there, right click and choose the "format data series" option. Once there, select the paint bucket icon, you have the option to format "line" or "marker". Once you select marker, you can edit the shape, color, etc. of the series of data points, which will change the legend as well!

I realize this post is old, but I had the same question, which led me to this post.

I read through all the replies, but none of them answered my question (I interpreted the original post as having the same question I have).

My question: If you make a pie chart in excel and use patterns instead of colors for the different slices, it is very difficult to see those pattern differences in the legend icons. How do you increase the size of the squares (legend icons) so that the pattern differences are visible?

My temporary solution was to increase the size of font of the overall legend box and then make it a superscript. (can be done by right-clicking, selecting Font, and checking the superscript check-box). This should keep the square icons enlarged while shrinking the text. You can then also change the superscript offset amount to change where the text is aligned.

This solution only allows an icon box up to a certain size though as making the text superscript will only shrink it a predetermined amount as far as I know. Also line spacing on the text seems not possible since it is a superscript...

Hi, I know this is an old post, but I was searching myself, found this site and did what HelenGeorgievsk suggested. I then adjusted the offset to 2. This will offset the legend name slightly from the icon, but that is not serious. At least the text is smaller and only the icons bigger.
