Word 2013 error message when opening document

Anonymous
2013-06-01T21:37:00+00:00

So I have a program running that organizes/indexes various documents including bmp, tif, doc, and pdf files.  When I select a file from the list it attempts to open the file with the corresponding program.  ie Word for a doc/docx file.  So when I click on a doc file, Word 2013 begins to open, then I get and error message as shown below from my event viewer.  It asks me to repair via 2 methods, neither of which have worked.  I can open these documents if I open word first then look them up.  The problem is that I have hundreds of doc's that are named with various letters and numbers from the index program that creates them, and trying to find the files without the indexer is difficult.  Many of these files reside on my network, and I have changed the trusted locations in Word to allow access to my server drive where the doc's are located. Any info in this problem would be appreciated.

Outlook does not use Word 2013 as its editor.

See the Article “Why can’t I start my Office 2013 application at:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/why-cant-i-start-my-office-2013-application-HA104011864.aspx

Refer to the following website for information on repairing Office 2013\365:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/repair-or-remove-office-2010-HA010357402.aspx

A lot of problems with Office 2013 are caused by third party (non-Microsoft) applications.  This is my (expanding) list of things to try when Office 2013\365 won’t start or crashes:

    See Office 2013 install woes - http://office-watch.com/t/n.aspx?a=1834

See the KnowledgeBase article “Office 2013 applications crash on launch at the splash screen” at:

Do you have Abbyy Finereader installed on the PC? A number of people have reported that removing it overcomes problems with 2013.  See:

Do you have “Fun Tools” add-in? A number of people have reported that removing it overcomes problems with 2013

Do you have Toshiba Book Reader installed on the PC?  It has been reported that uninstalling that brings Office back to working status.

Do you have the Acrobat PDFMaker add-in.  It has been reported that uninstalling that overcomes an issue with a message appearing that states "The document contains macros. Macro support for this application is disabled. Features requiring VBA are not available. Would you like to open this document as a read only?"

It appears that there may be some hardware incompatibilities as well.  If you have the NVIDIA driver NVWGF2UM.DLL, try renaming it as: NVWGF2UM.old as was mentioned in:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office\_2013\_release-word/microsoft-word-has-stopped-working-when-i-close/8375b5b6-4f7e-46ed-a02b-90152ecad287#LastReply

From the File tab, select Options and then click on Advanced and then in the Display section of the dialog, check the box for Disable hardware graphics acceleration

For the error message "There was a problem sending the command to the program", use Windows Explorer to access the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15 folder and right click on WINWORD.EXE then on Properties, go to the Compatibility tab and uncheck all the boxes.  It has also been reported that the problem can be overcome by editing the registry at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.12\shell\Open and deleting the ddeexec key.

The ddeexec can also be deleted from

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.DocumentMacroEnabled.12\shell\Open.

That fix is described at ...

    http://www.dilloway.co.uk/there-was-a-problem-sending-the-command.html

It has been reported that uninstalling FastPictureView and FastPictureViewer Pro… overcomes the issue of the Minimize, Maximize, Close and Help buttons not being visible in Office 2013.

If you have a Canon 8350 printer, try using the Canon MF8000 UFRI LT XPS driver as detail in the post by Riad Amstha on April 14 in the thread at:

ABBYY Fine Reader is Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software for text recognition, which turns scans, PDFs and digital photographs into searchable and editable documents.  It is installed by default with some Multi-Function printer drivers, notably Epson.

    1. The program developer said the program does work with the office/word 2013. They have not experienced this problem before
    2. The computer is connected to a network. The files we are trying to access are on a server computer, the server computer file location was added to Word 2013 Trusted locations, and checked allow trusted networks on the trust center too.  If the Word files are directly accessed from the folder they are in, they can be opened, edited, and saved.
    3. Other office applications including outlook, excel seem to work fine.  The program is also used to send files via email, and it is able to open outlook 2013 as the email editor and attach various file types to the emails.

I have tried repairing the office suite several times via both Quick repair and online repair. This happens when I open a Word document from the program, it says that  "Word has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Word will need to be closed as a result. Would you like to repair?"

Today I tried removing the Office 365 suite from the computer via the Control panel, and uninstalled it, then restarted the computer and reinstalled it. I'm still having the exact same problem with same error message/event log created.

I have been searching around the forums site and think someone else had a similar problem, and the only way he was able to resolve it was to reinstall windows, said was a corrupt system file?  I hope this is not the problem.

    Hi Jospeh,

Based on the description, you are facing issues working with the Word and the indexer program.

I would need more information to help you better.

1.Have you checked that if this index program is compatible with Word 2013?

2.Is this computer connected to a domain or a network?

3.Are you able to work with the other Office applications?

Repair the Office suite and check if it helps. Refer this link for more information:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/repair-office-programs-HA010357402.aspx

Reply with the results to help you further.
