I would like to edit a file name. Simple, but I cannot figure out how to change an existing file name. When I click into it (as with PC) it does not allow me to change the name. Any other new MAC users have the same issues?

You can't change within the document while open.

    1. Save File
    2. Quit excel
    3. Locate file where you saved it in finder
    4. verify it proper file by checking date and time it was saved
    5. click on file name
    6. now click on it again (not in rapid succession)
    7. You should now be able to rename.
    8. Now click anywhere else to get out of edit mode.
    9. Finally double-click in rapid succession to open file with new name.

A file cannot be renamed when:

    • the file is being opened
    • someone has accessing the file
    • the file is locked
    • your user profile doesn't allow you the edit the file

(If it is an Excel file,) make sure Excel has quit.

You can try to rename the file.

If fail, select the file and press keyboard command+i to see whether it is locked. Also check at the bottom of that file info window to see whether your user group has read-write access to the file.

If still fail, restart your computer and see whether you can rename it.
