Help trying to enter notes into access field.  I've entered data type as "long text" but it will only allow me to enter 255 characters as if it was a "short text" data field.  Any ideas???  Thanks. Emma&me

    Tom,

Problem solved!!!  For some reason data type listed "long text" but I noticed on property sheet the format had a "@".  I deleted it and long text field accepted more than 255 characters.  Now my only question is what does "@" do besides give me grief and how did it get into format???  I am loving learning the Access program.  Wish I had discovered it years ago.  And thanks for being here and helping us.

Good, solved: @ deleted and... wow... OK. Sure

I am having the same problem.  I took out the @ sign, but am still only able to enter 255 characters.   Is there any other solution??

    Nice detective work!

Yes, formatting a string can override the length. I would call this a bug, but I'm afraid MSFT disagrees.

You typed it in. Accidentally, most likely.

Since you are trying to learn, I'll just point you to the Help file, topic Format Property - Text and Memo Data Types

Hmm, that's surprising. And this is a standard Access 2013 table?

This is a client app, not a web app, right?
