How to unprotect a protected document?

Word 2010.. I'm working with forms created by someone else. These forms contain protected and unprotected areas. Unfortunately whoever set up these forms did not anticipate all the varied users and their requirements. So now I am left with a protected area I must change. is there any way to do this? Can I somehow copy the form and remove all protection?

I'm not sure how this all works since there appear to be some areas that allow changing from blanks to some value but thereafter become protected somehow or other.

And if there is a password, it's easily circumvented. Just create a new document with the same properties (paper size, margins, etc.) and use Insert | Text | Object | Text from File to insert the protected document into the new blank document. This removes the protection.

You’ll need to use the Developer tab to do this. If it’s not at the top of your screen go to File/Options/Customize Ribbon and put a check box in the Developer Box.

Select the cell(s) you want to unprotect and click on Restrict Editing on the Developer Tab.  On the right side of your screen a menu will appear and you can click on “Stop Protection.”  Hopefully, there won’t be a password associated with the protected cells.

I followed the directions, Insert/Text/Object/Text from file and I still can't figure out how to change the document. I opened a new document an inserted the protected one?

OK. You are in the new document, right?

    What problems are you having?

Thank you Suzanne S.Barnhill. It worked. Created another document with same Page Settings. Inserted a the original protected document which is having a password into the newly created document.

Used sequence "Insert | Text | Object | Text from File"

    Worked well. Thank you.
