I want a numbered list that's 001, 002, 003, instead of 01, 02, 03.

    If you are creating a single-level numbered list, do the following: Click the arrow on the Numbering button (in the Paragraph group on the Home tab), and then click Define New Number Format. Use the "Number style" box to specify the "001, 002, 003, ..." format.

    Your description suggests that you are typing in the leading zeros from the keyboard. What you should do is select the appropriate number format in the dialog box.

    If you don't have access to the "01, 02, 03, ..." format, then you must be using an old version of Word.

    To get that style of numbering, you will need to either use a SEQ field with a number formatting switch, such as

    { SEQ Num # 00 }

    or, define a New Multi-Level list following the method detailed in the article "How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in your Microsoft Word document" on the following page of the Late Shauna Kelly's website:

    Yes, you are right. Thank you for drawing my attention to this.

    In the number format selection, when scrolling further down, I see "01, 02, 03" and others with more leading zeros.

    Much appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Indeed, that's what I ended up using.

    The drawback of this is subsequent numbering in a table column would not be generated automatically as you add a new row. Unlike the more common (single digit) numbering.

    I had to copy each number to the next (new) row in the table and press F9 to update the field. Well, it does the job as far as the end result is concerned, but feels like a work-around more than a solution :)

    Thank you for your care.

    Kind regards

    Eman
