for some reason the view on my outlook page went so basic that i cannot do much.  it's just the inbox down the right side of my screen with no "options" or "preferences" link to switch it back to the standard view.  i cannot figure out how to change it back. why did it do this in the first place?  i never asked it to switch.

Not quite sure what you're describing. Are messages missing?

Have you possibly closed the Navigation pane on the left that displays your Inbox and other folders? If so, select View menu --> Navigation Pane to restore it.

If this doesn't answer your question then please post back with more details about what you're seeing and what you expect to see.

    Hope this helps!

As Bill indicated, Navigation Pane is listed in the View menu. Perhaps it will point you in the right direction to review the information in Outlook Help: Customize the Outlook window

If you continue to have a problem please provide specific descriptive information.. nobody can help if we don't know what you're referring to.

I'm not sure because you haven't described what you're seeing very well. Without better details I can only guess what you're seeing.

You've misunderstood my instructions. The Navigation pane is the area to the left of the Outlook for Mac window that contains your Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items folders, etc. If this area is missing you can click the View menu at the top of the screen and select Navigation to restore it.
