Background removal refine options not available?

Guys,

I am trying to use the Word or PowerPoint background removal tool on my Surface Pro 2. When enabled I do not get the 'Refine' options shown. If I open the ribbon customisation the three buttons that should be available under 'Refine' are shown as disabled but there is no explanation.

How do I find out what the issue is and how might it be rectified?

What is the format of the image?

Do check with PNG, JPG, BMP file type with different resolutions.

If possible upload the image you have issues with so that I can check the same in my end.

The images I used worked fine.

Check that your device is in mouse mode rather than touch mode. In touch mode the refine options disappear but they reappear in mouse mode.

Add a new custom group and re-add the functions:

Is your document in Compatibility Mode? That often changes the image editing features.

Yes, I have tried different pictures with varied resolutions and versions images and image formats. :( Still no dice.

Does anyone know under what circumstances these options should be disabled?
