When i open word or excel and try to type this error message pops up - your autocorrect file, C:\documents and settings\hp_administrator\application data\microsoft\office\MSO1033.acl, could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or you may not have permission to modify file.

I faced same problem. I could not resolve problem by applying various suggestions on net. Then I cut & pasted the concerned file to desktop from the original location. The problem solved. Now no more pop up. I deleted file on desktop. A new file with same name created automatically on same location.

That did not work for me but this did:

the error message states that the problem is because changes are not being saved in the MSO1033.acl file.

This could happen if the application is not able to acces the Application Data folders or if there is a conflict with the security software on the computer.

The following steps can be tried:

Issue Could be due to incorrect registry values in

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Shell Folders.

Click Start and in the start search field, type regedit and press enter.

In the registry editor, browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Shell Folders

On the right hand pane, check the value data for AppData

    It has to be %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming

If it is different, double click on AppData and type %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roamingunder value data and click ok.

Close the registry, restart the computer and check if it works...

My development history is with IBM and they documented their software, and provided an error message manual which gave all the possible causes of any error message and/or error code (at least in theory). Without documentation, the error message on screen is all one has to go on. Whilst I can appreciate the problems an individual developer may have and can feel some sympathy, Microsoft are treating their customers very shabbily in not providing the necessary information anywhere, and I can not, and do not, have any sympathy for them.

Misalignment of the celestial bodies is, of course, difficult to explain to customers :-)

Most likely the message means exactly what it says. Using Windows Explorer, go to that folder, right-click the acl file, and choose Properties; if the read-only box is checked, uncheck it. If that

isn't the case, look at the Security tab of the Properties dialog to make sure you have "Full" permissions to both read and write the file.
