Can't open password protected .doc/docx files on Android device using Word for Office Mobile

On the other hand, Polaris does it no problem, providing a field to type the password into.

Mobile Word just tells me that it can't open digitally protected files and the only option I have is to press 'OK'.

How is it that Polaris handles Word documents better than Word does? This is on a Galaxy Note II if it matters.

So far, my free trial of Office 365 is not encouraging me to purchase.

What does that have to do with anything? So far, your two replies haven't furthered the thread whatsoever. Is the origin of the software somehow relevant? If it came from the Play Store, would that lead to a different solution than if it came from another location?

I want to know why Word on my Android device can't open Word files that are password protected while third party software has no problem doing it whatsoever.

    That's it. That's the problem.

The section does not appear to apply. Note that I am not trying to edit the .doc or .docx file, just to open it. The file is encrypted and should prompt me for a password.

As I noted, the Polaris software on my phone prompts me for a password then the file opens when I provide it. Word does not prompt me for a password and just says it cannot open digitally protected files.

This is a bug, not a feature.

I finally installed Kingsoft Office and got rid of Office 365 (which would not open Word files stored on Drop Box nor any digitally/password protected Word files on Sky Drive) as well as getting rid of Polaris (annoying gray band and no way to get Sky Drive folders/files/documents).

Kingsoft (from the Play Store) works like a charm so far!!

I'm trying to open a .doc file with Word in Office Mobile, which is most definitely a Microsoft application. If you read my post, I'm explaining that another program called Polaris Office is able to open the file without an issue, while Word in Office Mobile can't do it.

How is it that Office 365 installed on a Windows deskop allows you to open a password protected file or create a new password file and then tells users they can install Office 365 on their Android and then use Skydrive to access your files from any device anywhere?  This is not good. Microsoft should have a disclosure for this defect.
