Using a SS & FF constraint on the Same Task

When I add a Start to Start Constraint to my task, it changes works as expected creating the start date from the related task and lag time.  When I add the finish to finish constraint to the same task, it sets the finish date as expected, but changes the start date to the same day as the finish date.  Is there something I am doing wrong in how I am entering this or a setting I need to change to make this work?

Thank you!

Not directly, but you can work around with two milestones - each one linked appropriately.  Then use the two milestones as the start and finish date of the hammock task.

Milestone 1 is linked SS-5 days to task 5 and its start is driving task 6.  Milestone 2 is linked FF+10days to task one and is driving the finish.

Thanks for the response.  I do see that it shows it running the full day, but I was looking for it to start 1/9/2014, not 4/1/2014.  This was my intent of the "start 5 days before the finish of task 5" statement, though I see from Julie's response that this is not a constraint as I was calling it, but just a predecessor, which I guess is allowing it to start anytime after this date?

A hammock task does seem to be the basic concept I am looking for, but I would like to be able to offset it some.  The task cannot really be started until there is only about a week's worth of work left on Task 5, and will need a couple weeks of work after task 1 ends.  Is there anyway to do hammock tasks with lags?

    Thanks!

    BD1586 --

I created an exact duplicate of your project and confirm that the Start date and Finish date of task ID #6 are correct.  The Start date and Finish date should be 4/1/14 as you see in your own project.  Here is what you cannot see for this task: the Start date is 4/1/14 at 8:00 AM and the Finish date is 4/1/14 at 5:00 PM.  To see this with your own eyes, click File > Options > General.  Click the Date Format pick list and select the 1/28/09 12:33 PM date format, and then click the OK button.  I believe you will be able to confirm that the Start and Finish dates of this task are correct.  Hope this helps.

You are setting predecessor/successor relationships not constraints.  I am guessing you are looking to create task 6 as a hammock task that spans the period of time between task 1 & task 5.
