Identifying what size of label a document is formatted for

A colleague created a Word document set up as labels. She chose the size of Avery labels she wanted it printed on and created the document specifically for that size labels. She then emailed me the document. I can't find a way to tell what size labels she formatted the document for. Does anyone know how to find out?

If all else fails, See “Convert Labels into Mail Merge Data File” on fellow MVP Graham Mayor’s website at:

    http://www.gmayor.com/convert_labels_into_mail_merge.htm

from where you can learn how to convert the labels into a mail merge data source which you can then use to create labels of any sort that you like.

Terry's suggestion is probably the most straightforward: ask your colleague. If she doesn't know, you'll have to use the Table Properties to figure out what size the table cells (labels) are and then try to match that to an existing label size. FWIW, I usually find it helpful to use the Comments field of the document Properties to record the Avery stock number of the labels to be used.

I realize this is an old thread but I also had the same question. I received a Word document that was a mail merge for creating labels but wasn't given the information about what label stock to use. I thought there had to be some kind of properties that I could access in the document to tell me what label template was used to create the document. If you click on Mailings then Labels, it assumes you want to create a new one rather than give you the information about the document currently opened. If that information exists, I can't find it.

Surely this information is buried somewhere in the data about the Word document. I wonder why Microsoft choose to leave it buried? Very frustrating....

In Word, labels are simply tables with fixed cell dimensions.

    Ask your colleague.
