A family of Microsoft relational database management systems designed for ease of use.
I totally agree. And I have a major employer of my students wanting us to do more with Oracle. I just had the Oracle data modeler installed at my university. After looking at it, I may drop Visio and SQL Server and go with Oracle.
I don't care so much about the new shape looks. I care much more about function. I care more about data modeling function than I do about 'sharing' or having multiple users work on the same document. What use is that if the basic functionality is gone.
Quote from the link above:
We place a strong emphasis on diagramming and sharing instead of rigorous modeling. Specifically, there is no ability to generate a diagram from existing code or a database definition. Also – just like in recent releases – there is no ability to go from diagram to code or database."
I needed the rigorous modeling and reverse engineering and the ability to go from diagram to database.
I may switch gears completely away from Microsoft on this. This loss is much worse for me and my students than, say, the loss of the Start button functionality in the OS.
Microsoft is not doing well on the Customer Relationship Management front, at least with me. And I decide what to teach students.
