Where are the Database Diagram tools?

I am trying to create a ERD and ERM, but I can't find the database tools. I am able to load a template and set shapes, but I have to drag each attribute one-by-one to fill the model. I remember previous versions allowed you to fill each entity like a table and set things like data types and constraints. I can't find these tools here for the life of me in this version.

I have Visio Professional Plus 2013.

I totally agree. And I have a major employer of my students wanting us to do more with Oracle. I just had the Oracle data modeler installed at my university. After looking at it, I may drop Visio and SQL Server and go with Oracle.

I don't care so much about the new shape looks. I care much more about function. I care more about data modeling function than I do about 'sharing' or having multiple users work on the same document. What use is that if the basic functionality is gone.

    Quote from the link above:

We place a strong emphasis on diagramming and sharing instead of rigorous modeling. Specifically, there is no ability to generate a diagram from existing code or a database definition. Also – just like in recent releases – there is no ability to go from diagram to code or database."

I needed the rigorous modeling and reverse engineering and the ability to go from diagram to database.

I may switch gears completely away from Microsoft on this. This loss is much worse for me and my students than, say, the loss of the Start button functionality in the OS.

Microsoft is not doing well on the Customer Relationship Management front, at least with me. And I decide what to teach students.

Is there anyway for the Visio user community to solicit Microsoft to reinstate database model diagramming and other functionality lost in Visio 2013.  I use Visio 2013 for most of my diagramming needs but continue to use Visio 2010 for database model diagramming.  It's unfortunate Visio is being depreciated and deprecated by Microsoft when so many of us have come to rely on it.

Is there any chance that a future release will include this back into Visio.  It was incredibly helpful to me as a student and now as a DBA at my company in helping people understand the Primary Key, Foreign Key, One to Many, Many to Many, etc. relationships between tables for Databases.  Especially with my coworkers who do not have the same level of expertise that I do with datatypes, table structure, relationships, etc.

Having to map this out manually or search for a different tool is not out of the question for me.  I was just hoping that Microsoft would please put this missing piece back (along with other lost functionality I read was now removed) which would make me Want To Buy This Product.

I am starting to think that MS wants me to go back to Oracle and MySQL and use OpenOffice or Google Docs to get things done....

So you are only able to add attributes to an entity by dragging them onto it? I never used the Reverse engineering, but it is much more efficient to be able to add attributes by editing a table interface. You were also able to add constraints, relationships and other characteristics and have that reflect in the diagram. Is that functionality gone too?

    Hi,

As far as I know, Database Diagram has new start, this release marks a new approach to software and database diagramming in Visio 2013. For example, Reverse Engineering in Visio 2013 has been removed.

Please refer to the following link to read the new of them.
