Microsoft Office 2003-Student and Teacher Edition

I have the Microsoft Office 2003-Student and Teacher Edition with a valid Product Key, depending upon how you define "valid." I simply got a new computer and installed the CD. When I tried to register it, I was told it had been registered too often. I get new computers about every 8-10 years. I have never loaned the CD to anyone outside of my husband, who rarely gets new computers. I don't want an "improved" Word. If I have to pay again to get this registered, how do I do so? Also, how does Office 2003 work with my new HP that has Windows 7? It seems to work fine, but are there known problems? I am primarily concerned with Word.

Thank you!

    Hi

I have the same problem as Barrie Ritter and am trying to re-install Office 2003 due to having a new hard drive after my old one burnt out..

As mentioned above there is no chance to activate over the internet BUT when you click on activate by telephone and chose your country a message says "Telephone activation is no longer supported for this product"

So how do I activate my product ?

Does anyone have a number so I can speak to a human ?

    Thanks

    Bob

SP3 is refering to Office 2003 Service Pack 3. you can get it here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8

Activation is the process of proving to MS that you have a legal license to run their products (ie Windows and Office).  Most of the time you can do an internet activation. If you don't have a good internet connection or are having problems you can do a phone activation.  Typically when you have a problem with internet activation you will be given the correct phone number to call.  Otherwise you can use the links below to find the right phone number.

This link describes the activation process:

Here are some more links that should help:

**Contact a Microsoft Product Activation Center******Use this article to learn how to obtain the appropriate telephone number by running the Product Activation Wizard.

**Understanding Microsoft Product Activation******Learn how product activation works and when to activate a product. (Win Vista, Win XP, Office 2007, 2003, 2002)

**Learn how to identify, locate, or replace a Product Key******Help with finding or replacing your Product Key required for Product Activation.

Phone Activation Process in Photos Win XP-7 Office 2003-2010

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950929

NOTE: you can find links to the specific activation instruction for Office or Windows in hyperlinks at the bottom of the article

If the activation process fails, you can change the activation process to telephone and call the number it provides you. Do not enter anything until the phone system offers you the option to talk to a live service rep. Explain the problem to them. You are transferring the installation from a “dead” computer, or you are getting an invalid product key and would like to know the exact reason

Manually invoke Activation applet to get phone number

    ·      Click Start, or invoke Run dialog using <WIN > +< R>

    ·      in the Run Box type slui.exe 4   (you need to include the “4” to get to the right spot)

    ·      Select the appropriate location for an activation centre near you and call them. Except on weekends.

The automated phone activation works fine. Call the number on the activation page and talk to the computer automated voice. Be at your computer with the activation screen open. Read the lengthy numbers to the computer when asked and get the even longer key to type in. That's all there is to it.

This is especially important for out of date software, which office 2003 is. Office 2003 will no longer be supported after April, 2014.

Don't forget to apply the sp3 update that also contains sp 1 & 2. Download it from Office Downloads to save time.

Thanks, thanks, but I'm still having a problem. What telephone number on what activation page are you referring to? I'm back at the beginning, looking, this time, for the telephone number. Sorry, but I still need some help. Also, I have no idea what the "sp3" is. Could you help me there, please!

No you do not have to pay again to use it.

Office 2003 works just fine on Windows 7.  No problems that I am aware of.

Since you are getting the "...too often..." error during internet activation you will have to switch to phone activation. When you phone in, don't reply to the initial prompts (you'll just get the same error).  Wait until you are offered the option of talking to a live service rep. Explain that you are transferring it to a new computer from a "retired/dead" computer.  They should allow the activation to complete.
