Office OpenXml files fail to open with Excel on iPad

A file created with the Open XML SDK for Office fails to open within Excel on iPad.  This file successfully opens within Excel on windows, Number on iPad, and Quick Look on iPad.

When opening this file in Excel on iPad, Excel pops up a "The workbook you are trying to open is an ISO Strict file" message box.  When Ok is clicked on this message the file is not opened.

Are ISO Strict files not supported with Excel on iPad?

Why wouldn't files created from the Office Open XML SDK work in this App?

Hello,

We have spoken to our product team, and at this time Strict Open XML is not supported on iPad or Mac versions of Office. This is a new file format introduced with Office 2013, and has not been incorporated in other Office versions.

It actually isn't supported for PowerPoint or Word, either. While they will attempt to open Strict files, they cannot save back in that format.

Regards,

Anita Oakley

Interestingly enough I am the D D in that thread which was attempting to help Ihor.

This link is not a solution for this issue.

Unlike Ihor I was able to create Office Open XML which successfully opens the OpenXMl file on windows, Number on iPad, and Quick Look on iPad (and independently with a different openxml file google sheets).  Although communication elsewhere shows that Ihor did eventually resolve his issue or understand the limitation of his issue.

We want to add Microsoft Excel on iPad as a supported destination for a file we create, but we encounter this product limitation.

    Thank you for your response.

I think you are misunderstanding the file type I am using.  The file is not an XML file.  The file which I am trying to opening is a .XLSX file which is generated by OpenXML for Office SDK.

Based on the supported file types mention in the Excel for iPad help and the list you mention in your responce the .XLSX file I have should work.

    Hello Dale,

The file formats supported in Excel for iPad are .XLS, .XLSX,.XLSM,.XLTX,.XLSB and .CSV.

Hence the XML file which you’re trying to open in iPad is not supported.

We consider and value your feedback, please take some time and post your feedback by clicking on the link below regarding this issue of PowerPoint:
