Problem inserting PDF file printout in OneNote?

I need to insert a PDF file printout into OneNote, but when I try I get the following error message:

The file you have selected cannot be inserted as a Printout. There may be a problem with the file, or you may not have the right program installed. You must first install a program that can open and print this file type, and then try again.

I've read through some of the other topics in the forums discussing this same problem, but I have no idea how to fix it. If someone could a) figure out what the problem is, and b) walk me though the steps of fixing it.. it would be greatly appreciated!!

I have no problems inserting the other sort of file I've tried inserting as a printout: powerpoint.

I had the same problem from earlier this year (2014) and just upgraded to OFFICE365 and now it all works fine. Must have been a glitch with the 2010 version as it was working for ages and then stopped working earlier this year.

Same here, brand new Surface Pro 3, Office 2013, Adode XI and I cannot print PDfs to ON or Insert printouts. Surprisingly it works on the metro app of ON.

Had this issue once before with windows 7, Office 2010 which was correctable with and Adobe update, but not the case now!

    Very frustrating.

I have this problem on a brand new Surface Pro 3, Office 365 Home Premium.  My solution was to install the free foxitpdf software so there is some "desktop pdf app" onenote can call to execute the print function.  I'm not a huge fan of Adobe products so I tried to find something else that was less invasive.

    Seems to work fine now.

Same issue for me - WINDOWS 7 -ONENOTE 2013. PDFs will not INSERT PRINTOUT. I receive the No app message as others have described. I have the PRINT function available with a right-click from file explorer.

    ANY SUGGESTIONS?

    TIA

I have the same problem with WORD (though I can print WORD documents to my printer I can't print them to OneNote). My printer will also print PDF files, but it will no longer send them to OneNote. It seems there is a problem with SEND TO ONENOTE. I have deleted the SEND TO ONENOTE 2010 device from PRINTERS AND DEVICES and then repaired OFFICE PRO via PROGRAMS AND FEATURES but the problem still persists. In summary, I can print WORD and PDF documents to my printer, but when I send to ONENOTE I get an error message. Any images that were created in ONENOTE via this method are there on OneDrive but are a red x on my PC.
