OneNote Best Practice? Multiple Notebooks or Large Notebook with multiple sections?

I use OneNote 2010 *extensively* to manage client information (I create a notebook for every client) and other resources.

Lately I have found OneNote using more processor than I would like and while I have seen some suggestions and implemented those I also wonder whether it is best practice to use a large notebook with multiple sections or divide them into separate notebooks.

For example I currently have a notebook I store information about applications and software I use daily.  These could be every day ones like office apps, could be networking information, could be applications created by my company. I could certainly separate them into different logical buckets if it makes sense to for best performance of OneNote.

Can anyone advise on best practice to optimize performance?

thanks.

Depends on where you save the notebooks.

If you save the notebooks in onedrive (Skydrive), its better to use multiple notebooks.

Each notebook is one file.

If the notebooks are saved locally in your PC, it does not matter.

Onenote will create a folder for each notebook and *.one file for each section in the notebook.

As long as the notebooks are in localy drive, you may organise them in any manner.

I know this is old, but you can treat that the same as storing it online in OneDrive (SharePoint storage now is even mostly, but not completely, rebranded as OneDrive for business). But regardless of brand name, you'll get better performance by breaking up the notebooks instead of one big one. Microsoft is working on making the sync experience better though.

    Hi, Marcus.

What would be the best practice for when OneNote notebooks are stored in SharePoint Online?

    Thanks
