office professional plus kms version, activation error: 0x4004F00C

I recently received a disk and product key for Office 2010 Professional Plus from an IT professional.   I run XP sp3, and the install was uneventful; though It never asked for a 25 digit product key. When attempting to activate the software via the "help" tab, there is the notification of  "Product Activation Required"; and there is a "Change Product Key" option. The 25 digit key supplied is invalid.  Further analysis of this version revealed that it is running within a grace period:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14>cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus

is running within the valid grace period.

Last 5 characters of installed product key: H3GVB

REMAINING GRACE: 30 days  (42941 minute(s) before expiring)

Though the product is working properly now, will it eventually downgrade and/or loose functionality?  It there any way to solve this dilemma?

Thanks

I doubt your friend had the right to do this.

You are responding to a thread that is 2+ years old, and may not be relevant to your problem.

Assuming you have an 'invalid product key' msg is this a reinstall on a PC that has no other version of Office, including trial installed, and are you using the original 2010 Pro Plus installation media?

I think it's fascinating when someone jumps to conclusions.

I am an IT professional at my workplace who is, as I write this, researching this exact problem for one of my co-workers, who is using an organization-owned computer, which I supplied a legally obtained copy of Office for, as part of my job.

No license violations here, nor most likely for the case originally posted.

I think it’s fascinating when someone asks, on a Venders WEB site...

How do I violate your license agreements...

Somebody replies back that the guy he got the illegal software from didn’t have the legal right to give it to him...

And someone complains - on the venders WEB site - that that answer didn’t help him.

    Really?!?!

The answer is don’t pirate software, and buy a legal copy…

Really??? This is an answer??? IT WAS NOT A "FRIEND" (where did you get that?). The question was : Though the product is working properly now, will it eventually downgrade and/or loose functionality?  It there any way to solve this dilemma?

Apparently there are no answers here!!

    Thanks for nothing
