What printer will work best with Windows 7 - 64 bit and with Office 2007

Hello:

Can anyone give me advice on which brand of printers work best with my OS?

After going around and around and around with HP tech support, I give up getting my HP laser jet printer to work with anything other than Word.  I don't need one that scans or photocopies.

Even though I love the output of a laser printer, I am going to purchase an inkjet printer and I will NEVER again buy anything made by Hewlett Packard.

I have Windows 7 64-bit Home Edition and the version of Office that I use is 2007.  I have no need to upgrade to any other version of Windows or Office, I am happy with both.

Thanks in advance for any advice  I may get.

My older HP inkjet is working.  I'll just keep it for now.  But if I ever buy any kind of printer again, it won't be an HP.  My experience was just so bad I'm off of that brand forever.

I'm no longer trying to get the laser printer to work with anything on my computer.  I went back and forth many times with Hewlett Packard on the issue (would only print from Word and nothing else).  I had one of their experts in the HP community forum sending me instructions on what to do and nothing helped.  At that point they had someone from HP call me - because at this point I was furious with HP- and that man told me it couldn't possibly be an issue with the printer, he was adamant the problem was with my computer and I'd have to hire a someone to come and fix it.  It would be less expensive to buy another printer than to that.  And my need for a laser printer has passed.

So, all I'm asking is what other printers will work with my system.

Since my post I re-connected my very old HP Deskjet F4140 printer and updated it's driver and software from HP's website.  It's working fine.  I'm just deeply disappointed that after waiting years for color laser printers to drop to a price I'd pay, that the one I got is so much trouble.  And especially since I had to have a friend drive me to a store to buy it, since I use mass transit, and it was too big and heavy to get home on a bus.  My main regret is that I didn't put the printer through it's paces in order see that it was not working with anything other than Word before the warranty expired

    Hello:

I have a HP laser that I have used for 20 years. With that said I am not as enamored with the more recent models where it seems that HP has built in some planned obsolescence. With that said many people have no problems with HP and they are favored by many.

I read again the thread where you tried to get Pub 2007 to work with your printer, and must admit that I can't understand why you were never able to get it to work. While I know that you have given up on using it, I would suggest this possible workaround.

Download and install www.primopdf.com which is a good free pdf writer utility. Just watch carefully as you install it and opt out of the extra toolbars and such and you should not have problems. Then choose the primopdf printer when you want to print from Publisher, create the pdf and then print the pdf with your printer. This approach has worked for others that had a problem with their printers playing well with Publisher or any particular program. And for that matter, you can try the pdf that you can create using the pdf add on that you can install with Publisher 2007 and other Office 2007 programs.

The problem you face is that you can't know in advance whether a particular printer will play well with Publisher 2007 or not. There have not been that many people who have had problems, but given the history you have with your current system it is impossible to say whether any particular printer will work for you. You should check to see if there is a current driver available from the company website for your OS.

Most recently I switched to Canon printers because I liked the quality and the four color ink which made it more efficient to use. If I were to buy a new printer today I would go on-line and read the most recent reviews of the computers. Just type in 'inkjet printer review' and look at PCWorld, PCMag, and those type of sources. Things change and their might be a better choice out there.

Personally I've never had any problems with HP printers, assuming your model features full win7 software available from HP support site, and depending on your Laser Jet, that might not be the case. (I have 3 here operating under Win7, Win8 & Vista)

Assuming you are trying to print from Excel, then File>Print shows the installed printer?

And if so what exactly is the problem?
