Server detects hard disks as read-only

I am finished with my nerves...

I want to connect a hard drive to my server normally. but for some reason it doesn't work.

Procedure:

  • NEW hard disk is connected (not via Sata but via USB Type C directly on the mainboard)
    • About the disk management I check if it was read correctly. ( was initialized without problems)

-I open the hard disk and test whether I can store something on the hard disk.

Error message: The data medium is write-protected. Remove the write protection, or use another data medium.

The first time I thought okay, that could be... but after I tried to unprotect the disk with "DISKPART" and everything else I also tried to unprotect the disk somehow I am at my limits. I have connected another (not new) harddisk to be sure it is not the harddisk. The same event with another hard disk.

Overview of what I have already done:

  • Formatted
  • Unprotect by CMD command ( DISKPART)

Step 2. type "diskpart" and press enter.

Step 3. type "list disk" and press enter.

Step 4. type "select disk X" and also press the Enter key. (Please replace 1 with the number of your disk).

Step 5. type "attributes disk clear readonly" and press the Enter key.

  • Remove write protection by changing the value via (regedit)
  • with multiple disks tool
  • hard disk connected to another computer and formatted there
  • connected another hard disk and had the same problem :(
  • share drive (Windows)
  • tried to give full access for all users ( without success because write protection )
  • disable endpoint protection (Bitdefender Gravitonen) and all client rules disabled

which then brought me to the point that it will have something to do with the server.... is that the hard drives on the other computer work normally.

I looked at the information with diskpart and there it says at write protected (NO) I am at my wits end.

have any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks a lot

This harddisk is in a USB Type c to sata case and there is no hardware button for write protection.

Sounds like the sata case is problematic. Might try a different one or contact the hardware vendor about this problem.

Might check the hardware for a write protect switch or also ask the hardware manufacturer for help.
