Open .one files in OneNote for Mac?

I used to use OneNote 2010 and have a ton of old notebooks. Then I switched to Mac, which didn't have OneNote, so I couldn't access any of my notes. I was excited to see that OneNote for Mac exists now, but when I got it, I didn't see any way to open .one files (or anything stored locally, for that matter). Is this really the case? It'd be really frustrating to have OneNote for Mac and yet still be unable to open my old notebooks. And if so, please consider adding support for this feature, mods.

Thanks!

Pavel ~ Welcome to the Community.

"...save it to OneDrive (...) I had been trying send, copy, move notebooks into different folders on OneDrive, other locations..."

Perhaps something has been lost in translation, but the key is to "Share" your notebooks from OneNote for Windows to OneDrive — then OneNote for Mac will "see" them in OneDrive's Documents folder and sync them down to your Mac. Read more in this old thread:

    Converting to Onenote Mac

When I came in contact with OneNote I was very excited. I used it a lot in daily business. I was searching for an equivalent on Mac OS X and no EverNote is not. My wishes were heard, I thought, when MS OneNote has been released for the Mac and even for free. But wait...

Trying to open or import my existing Notes won't work. Mostly I am using Windows 7 with older Office version of my customers. Getting in contact with some more up to date versions I had to realize that with those versions I am supposed to store my Notes in the cloud. BAD IDEA.

GREAT JOB, GREAT JOB MICROSOFT! Making one of the most productive application ever, totally useless. Believe it or not: I am able to take my notes on personal media with me. I can encrypt them. I can make multiple copies of it. I can store them in a safe. I don't need to access them on any drive I use with no purpose. If I want so, I am able to do it even without any cloud.

If you would offer the cloud service as an extra feature, fine. But to force people to put any kind of date on foreign storage?

I don't want to share my thoughts, my ideas, my data with you, my competitors, any agency, my or foreign governments, the bad guy and not even the good guy next door.

So I am getting back to old school Textpad, copy and paste. Thanks for nothing Microsoft. You really know how to ruin good things.

    This worked for me:

Copy all OneNote files into your OneDrive folder.

Access OneDrive online and open the files, it will then take you to OneNote online from where you can click where it says edit on onenote and it will open it up in your desktop one note.

    Hope this helps.

Open in on a pc using onenote 2010 or 2013.

    Once done, sync with OneDrive.

Once done, use the same account on the mac.

Anyways for further issues, post in the onenote for mac section. Would be more visible to people who know about the app.

Thanks! I don't have a PC, though. I switched to Mac several years ago. That's the whole nature of this problem.

Also, the OneNote for Mac section wasn't available in the dropdown menu for support, which is why I posted here.
