HELP WINDOWS and MS Office 2000

Just install Windows 8 over my VISTA system that was quite happily running MS Office 2000. Now can't reinstall MS Office on Windows 8. Get error message ERROR 1919 - error configuring ODBC Visual FoxPro database - ODBC error 6 - component not found in registry.

Didn't agree to give up existing licensees for Windows 8. Appreciate any help. Thanks

Thank you AKMC 117!! I wasted a couple hours of my life trying to figure it out as well - mad props to you Sir or Ma'am. You rock. Thanks to you taking the time to make a comment regarding your fix, I installed Office 2000 just as you described. Thanks so much.

What I found worked was to right click on the Install.exe icon and Run As Administrator. You still get all of the garbage errors about FoxPro BUT, unlike running it without elevating to Administrator, you can now ignore them and the installation will run to the end.

Well, I'll be a son-of-a-gun, AKMC 117's reco worked. And I'm running Windows 8.1. Thanks!

    This. Just... THIS.

This thread is way old now and doubtless the original poster has moved on to other things but I'll post my answer in case it's of benefit to someone else given that I've just wasted an hour and a half of my life trying to fix it. While I normally only use Office 2010 these days (despite the deep loathing about my add-in keyboard shortcuts being taken from me post-2003) I have the older versions of Office in case I need to check compatibility issues with people using older versions.

Microsoft Office 2000 is not certified to work with Windows 8. You might want to consider upgrading to a more recent release such as Office 2010 or a free third party suite such as OpenOffice or LibreOffice.

Also, you can download trial of Office 2010:

    Trial license:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/try/

    Full license:

    Also:

You can try reinstalling Microsoft Office 2000 in compatibility mode:

To run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter

    1. Tap or click to open the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.
    2. Follow the instructions in the troubleshooter.

    Tip

You can also open the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter by pressing and holding or right-clicking a program's icon or shortcut on your desktop, and then tapping or clicking Troubleshoot compatibility.

    ![](http://res1.windows.microsoft.com/Resources/3.6/HelpHub/shared/images/merged/expcol_imgs.png)To change compatibility settings manually

    1. Press and hold or right-click the program icon on your desktop, tap or click Properties, and then tap or click the Compatibility tab.
    2. Select one or more settings described in the following table.
Compatibility mode Runs the program using settings from a previous version of
Windows. Try this setting if you know the program is designed for (or worked in) a specific previous version of
Windows.
Run in reduced color mode Uses a limited set of colors in the program. Some older programs are designed to use fewer colors.
Run in 640 × 480 screen resolution Runs the program in a smaller-sized window. Try this setting if the graphics for the program appear jagged or are rendered improperly.
Disable display scaling on high DPI settings Turns off automatic resizing of programs if large-scale font size is used. Try this setting if large-scale fonts are interfering with the appearance of the program.
Privilege level Runs the program as an administrator. Some programs require administrator privileges to run properly. If you aren't signed in to your PC as an administrator, this option is unavailable.
Change settings for all users Lets you choose settings that will apply to all users on this computer.
