Prevent markup area from printing

Just migrated to Windows 7 and Office 2013. Now when I try to print a document in which I'm tracking changes, this new version of Word 2013 is printing a blank markup area on the right side of the page, taking up about one-third of the paper. In past versions of Word, this same document printed with just the change bars on the left side showing, which is the option I had selected. I've played around with it and searched with Google and have been unable to find a solution as to how to prevent the markup area from printing. I found a post about this issue on someone's blog, where the author said that changing from "Simple Markup" to "Original" on the Review screen solved his problem, so I tried that. Although the markup area doesn't display in Print Layout, as soon as I go to print the document, I see it appears in Print Preview and when I print it. I am very frustrated, and would appreciate any assistance.

I had the same problem, but I have found a solution. To print track changes without printing the markup area, go to the review tab in the ribbon of Word 2013 and under the "Show Markup" dropdown uncheck "Comments" and "Formatting". This will remove the markup area when printing, but still show the rev bars in the right or left margin (however you set it).

The reason this happens is because when marking up a document comments and format changes show up in the markup pane on the right side of the document. Even if you are trying to print a page without format changes or comments it will still appear if you have a format change or a comment anywhere in the document.

If you change the "simple markup" to "original" it will not show any track changes as this was the intended function (to show the original document before changes).

To hide the markup area you will have to hide all revision balloons: Click Review | Show Markup | Balloons | Show All Revisions Inline.

Here is the solution to the completely useless tracking feature (that assumes everyone opens a blank template and starts from scratch, that most definitely NEVER happens except maybe on the first day a business starts and has no access to internet or any other document and HAS to start from scratch):

    In Word 2013 and 2016:

Review > Changes > Accept > Accept all changes and stop tracking

None of these "solutions" are helpful to me.

I want to print the document full-page, with the vertical change bars on the left and the insertions & deletions highlighted — Final Showing Markup — so those changes actually print red on my color printer.

I don't want to show Original, or Final, because I want to review the changes.

I don't want to accept the changes either, because I want them to print.

The only thing I don't want is the "Markup Area" taking up space on the paper and making everything on the page smaller.

I had same problem printing--trying to not print the comment area. I changed from "Simple Markup" to "Original", but also selected my printer (altho it was already hi-lited) on the Print menu then clicked on Printer Preferences and used the options I'm used to. I finally got the doc printed full-page and without comment area.
