Help! "After Previous" animation not working

Please help!!  I have spent hours animating my PPT presentation.  I have been using PPT for years, and I'm pretty great at doing animations, so I know all the tricks.

I am creating a presentation that essentially runs itself.  There is music, and everything moves through (a little movie, if you will).

However, when I inserted my audio MP3 clicks, suddenly the animations "defaulted" to doing nothing but appearing on click (they were set to "After Previous," so that nobody had to click).  All of them went to 0 in the order list, and I could not do anything to make them go back to what they were. Further, the animations all defaulted to "On Click," and there was absolutely no way I could use "With Previous."  A list of 5 animations would have a 0 all the way down (instead of ordered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

I then removed the music, and realized that the problem still existed: if I use "After Previous," forget it. Nothing is working.

They were working before the MP3 files were added, so I'm wondering if they jammed up the presentation (though this doesn't make sense, because even upon removal, they aren't working anymore).

What is going on!?  Why can't I use "After Previous" anymore????

Thank you for the reply. Yes, they are all MP3 files. I have figured out a solution, but I sure don't know what the problem is: when you are wanting the slide to advance, you have to check the box that says "play across multiple slides," even though you only want it to play across that slide. You simply choose 1.

Honestly, the presentation I have worked on is so intricate and detailed, I have learned everything about this quirky program. Sometimes, just like banging your head against a wall, this solution has been to delete everything on a slide, do everything exactly the same over again, and voilà, it works. Unbelievable.

If the problem appears in just one presentation, then there might be corruption within the presenatation itself. You might be able to fix that by using File > Save As and choosing a different format, such as Macr-Enabled presentation (.pptm).

If this is always a problem you can test to see if there is a corrupt preference file. To perform this test, make a new user in Mac OS X preferences. A new user has a fresh set of default preferences. If the problem does not present itself in the new user, you can trash the PowerPoint prerferences in your regular user to fix the problem there, as well. If the problem remains, there could be a bug in PowerPoint that you should report to Microsoft.

To report a bug to Microsoft use the Help menu in PowerPoint and choose the Send Feedback option. Microsoft may not be aware of this particular bug.

This is an addendum to the previous post.  It is  definitely related to the music!  I just reworked some of my slides, and my animations worked just fine, faded in and appeared and danced all to no noise, in proper succession, using "After Previous" with the correct timed lags in between.

There are stlll 0s lined up along the timings, but I guess that's something I didn't notice when you use "After Previous."

However, as soon as I inserted the MP3 file and ordered it to the very top (so the music will begin to play as the animations unfold), nope.  Nothing comes after.  The music plays, and the slide remains blank. I have to manually click through, and even then, they only appear rather than show up by the set animations (ie., fade in, spin in, etc).  The music plays, but the set animations aren't there (though visually, the commands appear fine in the menu, and remain set).

If I move the MP3 file to the end, though, no problem.

    Please help!

It seems you’ve done an excellent job testing. Does it matter about the file format of the sound? For example, have you tried an uncompressed .wav file instead of .mp3?
