  1. I created two years ago a ppt file with PowerPoint 2003 (Windows XP) at work. I can open and modify it there. Presentation works fine.
  2. I copied the file to my home computer: PowerPoint 2010 (Windows 7).
  3. I can open it, watch the presentation, can modify it but can't save it at all (save, save as.., tried everything).
  4. I tried to find the item that causes the problem. Only by deleting all items I can save it. But I am not able to isolate the item.
  5. I have the Microsoft XPS as the default printer installed. It's the only printer!
  6. I don't have Norton AntiVirus installed but another programme.
  7. Heeeeelp!

I've run into this error way too often with Powerpoint.

One question I have for Microsoft: Why can't your programmers give us a little help by providing a little more info about what Powerpoint doesn't like that is causing the error?

It's like "Powerpoint found something it can't fix. Sorry! Good luck finding what bugs us!"

If it were more specific, like "Powerpoint found an formatting error on Slide 27. Please reformat the slide and try again."  THAT would be helpful.

Please provide more specific error messages that will help us pinpoint the error rather than have to go through our presentations one slide at a time to locate the error. I often have to run through 50-80 slides before I find the error.

Oftentimes the error is something stupid, such as it has a problem with an image that I have used at least 100-150 times before without issue. But for whatever reason, THIS time Powerpoint has an issue with that image.

Yes, I am frustrated. I like Powerpoint, and have fun with it, but the regular refusing to save my presentation after much work is a real pill to deal with.

Surely Microsoft, with its thousands of programmers (assuming), can step up the quality and service in this area.

    Thanks.

I would like to play around with this.  I had a similar issue last week with word.  I had to change the file being saved to a .doc instead of a .docx or vice versa ... can't remember which.  Seems like the powerpoints are ppt. and pptx as well.

I also had a powerpoint that was started on a different version of powerpoint.  I cut the new slides out of the edited powerpoint ... opened the old one and saved it with a different name, added the new slides, and saved it again.  I am not sure what I did that made a difference, but it saved after that.

Alright, after about 25 minutes of troubleshooting, we have found out how to solve this problem. It has to do with the formatting on one of the slides in your presentation. In our case, it was the final slide.

Copy paste each slide into a new PowerPoint and save. Eventually you will get an error, and that will be your corrupted slide. Just re-create that one, and bing bang bong, your powerpoint is saved!

This error occurred with every slide in the presentation.  This may be an option for some presentations, but for the 46 slides, it required recreating every slide. Oh..well.

Where are you trying to save the ppt file (Local Drive or Network drive)?

Is it happening with all old files or one particular ppt file?

ØTry to use the re use slides option:-

Home> new slide and click on drop down > Reuse slides and then try to browse and recreate the file see if that helps

ØTry to repair using PPT repair option

File > open in the open windows down right you have a drop down open and repair try that step

ØWhat is the size of the file and the number of slides?

Try to delete few slides and check, and remove any media if available

Do you have any media or graphics inserted to the presentation?
