Top 10 percent number filtering in Excel 2010

Hello all,

I'm really confused the Top 10 Percent how works! I also googled it but didn't find an obvious explanation. For example, in below table, I click on the Top 10 option (of column Percent) and choose the Top 10 Percent from that dialog box. But it only shows the biggest percent!

First, how this option (only top 10 percent) exactly works please? Then, why it doesn't show the top 10 percent for that Percent column?

Thanks.

    Hi,

There are only 15 values in the % column and 10% of 15 is 1.5 so Excel displays 1 value for the top 10%.

If you extend your column you will get 2 numbers displayed when there are 20 values in the column.

I think what you should be filtering is the top 10 Items.

What about 5 percent. I chose top 5 percent so in your point of view it should show 3 values, not? But it again showed only that one again!

    Hi,

No that's incorrect, here's how it works.

Once again 15 values so 5% of 15 is 0.75 so you get 1 value displayed. If you set the filter to 15% then 15% of 15 is 2.25 so you get two values displayed and for to 20% you would get 3.

How it has chosen the higher 10 percentages? The result shows only one percentage (4350%) not the top 10!

Hi, it will filter by the higher 10 percentages hiding everything else, what would you like to do?
