Reveal Formatting shows (Asian) Chinese (PRC)

My spell check stopped working correctly. When I looked into it I noticed that the "Reveal Formatting" function shows Language: (Asian) Chinese (PRC) and then Other: English (US)

I have checked everywhere on my computer. English is the default everywhere. This occurs in brand new Word documents with nothing in them yet. When I look at the Style pages, most of them have the Language as Chinese PRC.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I have seen this problem all over forums with no solution.

I've discovered the same problem. My default is UK English but reveal formatting shows the same "(Asian) Chinese (PRC)" immediately under the Language tab followed by (Other) English (UK).

I write government papers and this behaviour is troubling.

I have only seen this behavior with documents converted from OpenOffice (*.odt) format. Copying a correctly formatted style from another document may fix the problem (but it doesn't necessarily work).

I have had the same problem and, to my best knowledge, the document I work with was NOT converted from ODT. For similar reasons as JohnMCClifford, I find this worrisome.

    Hi,

Thank you for choosing Office Community and thanks for providing us an opportunity to assist you.

I understand that the default language in Word has changed and spell check is no longer working.

Have you tried changing the default language and set to English in the Word application?

Refer to the following link on changing the default language for Office programs and check if it helps:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/change-the-default-language-for-office-programs-HA010356057.aspx

If the issue persists, reply and we will be glad to assist you further.

    Thank You
