Manually Scheduled Task Filter - Not Working in MS Project 2010

I displayed the "task mode" field in the entry table and then selected the drop down arrow on the field name to filter only the manually scheduled tasks, but it is not working.  Do you know what I can do to resolve my issue?

Thanks,

Megan

    Hi,

I only have the Dutch version in front of me so the translation nto English may be slightly off, but still:

    View ribbon

    Other views

    More Views

    Edit

Make Sure Highlight filter is unchecked

    OK, OK...

    Greetings,

    Megan141,

We forgot to ask if you have SP2 installed. I know you've posted before but we can't keep track of everyone's update status.

Assuming the issue is not whether or not the highlight filter is applied, (it will still filter the manual tasks, it's just that all tasks will show but only the manual tasks will be highlighted), and you are updated to SP2, it might be a corrupt file. Does this problem also occur with a new file? If it does not, then try saving your file as XML and re-open in Project. Note, you will lose any custom formatting.

    John

    John/Dale,

Thank you for your responses.  My file is stand-alone file without any subprojects inserted.

That's exactly what I did---I used Autofiltering and yes, Auto Scheduled and Manually Scheduled both came up for me to choose which one I wanted to filter.  But, when I chose to view only manually scheduled tasks, Project did not autofilter them.  It left the schedule as it was.  All of my summary tasks are auto scheduled.

    Megan --

Autofiltering on the Task Mode column should show you two choices:  Auto Scheduled and Manually Scheduled.  Are those the two choices you see when you click the AutoFilter pick list in the Task Mode column.  If you select Manually Scheduled on the pick list, Microsoft Project will display all Manually Scheduled tasks, along with their respective summary tasks, even if the summary tasks are not Manually Scheduled.  Could that be why you think the AutoFilter is not working?

If that does not work for some strange reason, there is a built-in filter called Manually Scheduled Tasks.  To access it, click the View tab to display the View ribbon.  In the Data section of the View ribbon, click the Filter pick list and select the More Filters item near the bottom of the menu.  In the More Filters dialog, select the Manually Scheduled Tasks filter.  If you click the Highlight button, Microsoft Project will display every task, but will apply yellow cell background formatting on every Manually Scheduled task.  If you click the Apply button instead, Microsoft Project will display only the Manually Scheduled tasks.  Hope this helps.

    Megan,

It isn't totally clear but it sounds like you are using autofilter. I did a quick test on a simple file and that approach works fine. A full custom filter also works fine as long as you realize that the field is boolean - a "1" is manual and a "0" is auto so the filter test should be "equals"

Tell us more about your file. Is it a master/subproject structure? Are you in a Project Server environment?
