Aligning images next to text block

I noticed on some of the sways featured on the Sway website that images can be located next to a text block, either to the right or left of the text block.  I cannot seem to accomplish this.  I have tried grouping a block of text with an image, but the image is either positioned above or below the text block.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Eric- sorry for the late reply.

That particular Sway is using a vertical structure and a style from the first row.

Every style has it's own magic that we're continuing to build out -- for the time being you can get that effect by having an image follow a long flow of text. You won't get that effect if the text the image follows isn't long enough.

Also our layouts are adaptive so depending on the device or screen size you are presenting on-- you won't get that effect.

We continue to tune and hone, and a great way to work with Sway is when you focus not on a particular effect, but layout your content, and experiment with Remix, mood and structure to find the output that best suits your message. Our hope is that every output is great, which can be a bit unfamiliar if you're used to pixel level control.

    Hi Mikal,

I was attempting to place the pictures beside boxes of text, indicating the beginning of a new section of the presentation. It automatically placed one picture beside text, i liked the look of it, so I added another in a different section, it instead added it below the text rather then on the side. It would be nice to have clear indication where images would sit in the actual presentation on the storyline.

Not sure if that helped, thanks.

I'm having similar issues. Some pictures are aligning up with the text on the side, some is placed below. Obviously Sway is still being designed and tested. Hopefully we could see a little more control in our Sway storyline feature.

    Hello Mikal,

Yes, here is a Sway I created for our school district's one-to-one tablet program (using Windows based devices I might add) - https://sway.com/8038OeNLilEKE9q\_

Here is a link to the Sway on your website - https://sway.com/american\_bears that has many examples of the images aligning to the right of a text block.

If this issue is image size, it would be helpful to know what size images should be used to accomplish this.

I understand the what Sway is trying to accomplish with its dynamic layout, but at the same time, there are simple design decisions that the user should be able to make to produce the best appearance.

    Thanks,

    Eric

Hi Eric-- at this time most of Sway is not driven by absolute position- the goal is to help deliver a layout that works based on your expressed "structure" across a range of forms.

Can you create a Sway you are willing to share that has an example of the challenges you're having. Also please provide a link to a featured Sway that accomplishes this and we'll take a look.

    Thanks!
